Hi Debbie

It would have made econmic sense I think for them to move to the more industrialised area of Ashton.  The professions they gave on those earlier babptisimal records I would think would have been  in a cottage industry style setting, and then as the North West industrialised they found greater employment opportunities in the factories.

I will see where the records are housed for ashton as my Step son lives there.  I certainly recognise the name St Peter's church.  I will try and go again to the Stockport office to see if I can find the earlier baptism records for Thomas or any of these other Chadwicks I found.

Hi Debbie

I don't know if you've seen either of these web pages.  The first one has access to baptism, marriage and burial records in Cheshire.  Unfortunatly Cheadle is still in progress.  I had a look at what comes up and you get a lot of info so it may be useful to keep an eye on.  However I found it difficult to understand, that of course could have been me!  I couldn't quite work out how they display the date.  Anyway, it may be useful to you in the future when they get Cheadle on line.

This one is Tameside's family history site which has links to lots of other stuff.  You can view burial records but only post 1926 I think.  There are  some Chadwicks on there but I don;t know if they are relevant to you.

I will keep my eye out for you for anything out which may be useful.

Hi Debbie ,W.A.John Chadwick is my 3rd great grandfather, I live in Vict.my email is (*) , am trying to do the same as you and go back to try and find the connection of the cotton mills as to which part of the Chadwick family they belonged to.
There were 5 cotton mills with the name chadwick from the late 1700s to the middle 1800s.
The marriage of Thomas and Harriot in 1816 has not given me any clues .Hopefully we can help each other, regards Chris.Guerow
