by the way, Danny it was really nice of you to do a lookup in that publication... ;D
Plus it didn't say anywhere else that one of the crew survived the crash...odd that one can be "slightly injured" when all others are killed...He must have had a hard time dealing with that....

Hi JJ !

It was for somebody on another site ... we were looking at Sgt G D Cumberbatch he was from Barbados and then we found two were Canadians ...... as WW2 isn't my forte ... I decided to see what I could find out !!  :) ... I love learning new things ... thank you for all the help !

Lancaster ED549 Gardening Mission

T/O 18.32 from Grimsby. Crashed at 03.08 while trying to land land at Langar Airfield, Nottinghamshire on return from a Gardening sortie. This was the first mission by 100 Squadron after they had received Lancasters and their mission area was St. Nazaire (another aircraft, ED559, crashed in the target area). All but one of the crew were killed.

1943 and 1944 were the worst years for Bomber Command. Horrendous losses.

I've got quite a few publications on the RAF and RCAF and always willing to do lookups.

Yes I'd been through the resources JJ ... but then I was lucky enough to get the death certificates too !

.... Thanks for the offer Danny .... like I said I'm just learning about WW2 especially the RAF and Far East POW's .... amazing  ... and heartbreaking .... but I keep going off on tangents when I see something else that catches my eye !!  ::) ... thats why I can't get my Honour Rolls finished ... I "play" too much !!
