lanchester par. marr. COMPLETED. THANKYOU
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 00:11 GMT (UK) »
hi, can anyone help me with a marriage at lanchester, at the all saints.  the marriage took place on the 15th may 1837 between william batey / ann mclish. i purchased the record from dro but only gives me the abode of the two parties, and have looked through bishop trans. on numerous occasions but the page seems to be missing. i would like if possible the wittnesses to the marriage. if someone can help i would appreciate their time.

linda.

Hi Linda :)

I have had a quick skim through near the 1837 pages as well. It seems as though they stopped putting marriages in after 1836. I could only see births and burials after that, unless of course they are elsewhere in the records i.e. not in date order. I didn't go through the full 844 pages. If you have been through the whole lot which I know is time consuming, I have done the same for my lot in various parishes, the only other thing to do is actually order the marriage certificate as it will have the witnesses on.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :(

I am assuming your definition of "dro" is Durham Records on line?  The place you need to go to get the witnesses if it is not in the Bishop's transcripts is the Durham County Record Office.  http://www.durham.gov.uk/recordoffice/usp.nsf/pws/Durham+Record+Office+-+Family+History  For a fee they will look up the marriage, photocopy the page and send it to you.  It will not cost as much as you have the date.  There will be no certificate as this marriage took place before July of 1837.
