Batch number I007849 on the IGI http://www.familysearch.org says Elmstone but I have good reason to believe that some of these baptisms at least occured at Elmstead.  There is a Joseph & Catherine SMITH with daughters Catherine Susannah and Ann baptised 1819 and 1820 respectively.

There is a marriage of Joseph SMITH to Catherine DODGE at Newington (nr Hythe) 23 Jan 1808 which is pretty near to Elmstead and which may be relevant.

Could this be Ann - it would be very much a co-incidence if it weren't ie. of the correct forename and born in the same small Kent village to turn up in Wolverhampton too?

1851 - Temple Street, Summer Row, Wolverhampton

Richard JONES head mar 40 pattern maker b.Bilston Staffordshire
Ann wife 31 b.Elmsted Kent
George son 10 b.Pimlico Middlesex

HO107/2018 folio 149 page 16
.......................

Saying that, she appears to be Amy in 1871 and 1881 :-\

I think this could be the father, Joseph SMITH, in 1841 & 1851

1841 - North Elham, Elham, Kent

Joseph SMITH 55 ag lab b.Kent
Susannah 20 b.Kent
Emma 2 b.Kent

HO107/477 folio 22 page 1
.................

1851

Joseph SMITH head wid 67 ag lab b.Elham Kent
Susanna CROUD dau mar 31 pauper (deserted by husband crossed out and replaced with) housekeeper b.Elham Kent
William gson 3m b.Elham Kent

HO107/1633 folio 347 page 14
...................

Susanna Catherine SMITH married John CROUD Elham registration district 1841 http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

actually... you could be onto the right ones...

the ann you mention, with her husband, in temple street in 1851, could be lydias sister?... for there are a number of Braziers around temple st, well all around that section of wolverhampton (they are a BIG gun lock making family from London and Wolverhampton )

And with them havign a son in Pimlico m-sex, well numerous Braziers are listed in Marylebone Middlesex (where the biggest part in the Braziers gun trade came from, Joseph Brazier "Brazier and son"

hmmm i need look thru these slowly  lol

thank you so much tho :)

Elham and Elmste(a)d are close by see F3 and G3 whilst Elmstone is a little further away see G2 http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/Location/02.htm

I believe the reason that Elmste(a)d and Elmstone are listed under the same batch number in the IGI is nothing to do with their proximity to each other but more that they are alphabetically next to each other in the list of East Kent parishes and that the somebody has forgot to alter the name of the transcriptions uploaded to the IGI hence at least some of the entries for Elmstone should read Elmste(a)d.  There were 500 people living in Elmste(a)d in 1841 but less that 100 in Elmstone so there shouldn't be anywhere near that many baptisms for Elmstone.  I should forget all about Elmstone for the time being at least ;)

ty so much for that detailed information, and wow, as little as 500 people? i imagined the population may be small, but... lol

But that makes the names youve found, as you say, too big a coincidence to be... coincidence

I'll print off all these details cos my heads swimming right now w new facts from all lines of my tree lol (isnt it odd that you find no new leads for ages, then BANG a great big rush of em all at once  lol )

again, thank you so much!
