Hi Toni, please give me clue as to how to get other threads linked up here without me exiting this at current moment.  Cheers, MA

Hi All,

re the John Smith born to Abraham and Amelia, the waterman at Ely in 1841.  The chap doing family history on that line has that 1840 born John Smith sorted.  There was another boy born in same quarter, at Ely and named as John Smith.  His parents were John and Lucy.  I don't know Lucy's maiden name, but they are on 1841 cenus, at Black Dike, Tydd St Giles, sorry if I am not giving enough info.  Interested to follow that farm? Well it changed hands, to a James SMITH, and among his household was a William Smith, his nephew.  Probably the same William Smith who was there as a child in 1841.  I have chapter and verse on that farm, for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, and can find John and James (children of John and Lucy) at Tydd St Marys - different county but just a couple of miles north of Tydd St Giles and they were working for the vet.  John Smith was a "carter", same occupation as mine in NSW

Hi Spidermonkey,  I have just sent email to one of my cousins re that 1871 census for John Smith aged 26 of Ely.  Cousin may have some ideas or research info, if so I will share.

I think my threads on Mary Ann / Mary Hartley HUNT were on lancs and cheshire boards.  We have in family records a photo of Mary Ann at aged 20 and it is found on the photo restoration board on rootschat, as is a photo of John (Ellington) Smith.  Not sure how to add those links to here, but I will figure it out shortly.  Probably just a senior moment by moi. !!!

Cheers  MA

Hi All,

Just a thought, the 1861 census with apprentice John Smith to Joseph Sharp RG9; Piece: 1037; Folio: 4;  do any of you know of any apprenticeship records?  I have his signature, but it was made in 1912, when he was over 70, its from marriage of one of his daughters.  Cheers, MA
