WILLIAM GOODACRE 1851 CENSUS
« on: Thursday 16 April 09 10:28 BST (UK) »
From later census returns I have William Goodacre born in around 1842 in Holwell, Leics. I don't have any details on his parents or siblings yet - I would be grateful if anyone could track him down on the 1851 census.

Thank you.

Matt Clempson.

Hi,

I have found this one which doesn't really help as there is no head of household. These three offspring are listed as belonging to the family next door but there is a definite division and enumeration number for their house so I think it is  a transcription error.

HO107/2091/574/5
Holwell

Goodacre:
Thomas, 18, Melton Mowbray
William, 10 Holwell
Mary J, 4      "

I'll check 1841/61 and see if anything else crops up.

Think this is possibly Thomas in 1841 -

Hollwell Village
Jane Goodacre 30 widow yes
John 10 yes
Thomas 8 yes
Richard 6 No
Henry 2 no

next door

John Goodacre 60 weaver yes
Charles Chester 25 ag lab yes
mary Chester 25 yes
John chester 2 yes
HO107 587 5 6

1851census gives Thomas'occuparion as "At home" - which is unusual for an 18 yr old male????

I thought maybe that meant he was looking after the younger siblings. Parents dead maybe?

I also saw the 1841 entry but can't see them in 1861 yet.

I don't know the area but in the 1871 census he was living as a lodger in a house in Melton Mowbray. He married Mary Musson who was born in Long Clawson (?) in around 1852, but I don't have anything further about her either as yet.

There seem to be quite a few Goodacres in the same broad area - I haven't linked mine into any others being researched yet.

Thanks again - it looks like I already know a little more than I did!

Matt.

Just looking at the two brothers, Richard, c1835 and Henry, c1839.

In 1851, Richard, age 17 and born Basford Nottinghamshire, is a servant in Holwell - HO107/2091/575/6

Henry is in the following household. Melton Mowbray

HO107/2091/181/2
Henry Goodacre, 31, tailor, Holwell
Elizabeth, 35
John, 30, Melton Mowbray
Camilla Clarke, 16
Henry Goodacre, 12, Nephew, born Notts.

I can't read the relationship bewteen John and Henry ( the head of household). It could say Bro but I'm not certain.

Hi Jen ,

re 1851 census - henry with his uncle

John Goodacre is transcribed as age 30 - but image reads as if he could be 20? Relationship to head is difficult to read, could it possibly be apprentice ???

And could this John be henry's brother from 1841 census???

I agree about the age being unclear and yes, of course it could be Henry's older brother - how dim of me not to notice that! ::)
