speechley family of yaxley
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 15:06 BST (UK) »
hi  ;D

im looking for information on the speechley family of yaxley, my 4 x gt grandfather is a william speechley in the census he is living in whittlesey, cambridgeshire with wife ann and son william working as a farm labourer but states his birthplace as yaxley, the census would date him to being born around 1802,he married his wife a widow by the name of ann crawthorne from ramsey on 26th november 1832 at ramsey.
but i cant find any birth/christening for a william speechley in yaxley around this time.there is another william born around the same time in yaxley but hes been proven not to be the william in our speechley tree.
can anyone offer advice? many thanks for looking

Yaxley parish register has been filmed by the LDS, unlike many Hunts parishes, so is available to order and view at your nearest LDS Family History Centre if that's closer than Huntingdon

Rogers of Potton
« Reply #8 on: Wednesday 08 July 09 13:35 BST (UK) »
Dear David,

Hope you don't mind my jumping into the middle of your chat. I see from the net that you have done some research on the Rogers of Bedfordshire. I am descended from one John Rogers who (I believe) married an Elizabeth White in Potton in 1778. He may have been from Campton (B. 1753) but not confirmed. We have a copy of his will dated 1828. You can see my tree on ancestry (Rogers032009) and at http://andrewfr.tribalpages.com/ (password ailsa). I am in Bangkok, so depend on the net for much of my research.

There was a John Rogers, vicar of Potton in the 1500's, but no idea as yet if he was related.

Any further information or leads you may have on earlier history of this family would be most welcome.

If it is useful I can send you a copy of the will by email.

Best regards,

Andrew
