Livingstone of Limavady?

First posting on this forum

This is my children's ancestors. I have a Catherine Walker who married Samuel Livingstone 13 Aug 1877 in Limavady. I think that I have found them in the 1911 census, but I would like to see if there is anyway to take this family back. Ma in law suggested that they originated from Blantyre Scotland? I have never been able to find out more than this.

I have no Irish ancestors myself, did spend a half day at PRONI two years ago, but my chance of getting there again is difficult.

Annie,
Welcome to Rootschat. I found what I also believe to be your Livingstones on the 1911 census and from their ages they were born before Civil registration came into being. This being the case you will have to depend on Church records. As the couple were married in Christchurch Church of Ireland I assume that Catherine Walker was Church of Ireland and from the census Samuel is Presbyterian. There are three main Presbyterian churches in Limavady and several others in the outlying area which will make life difficult.
Griffith's Valuation, 1858, lists no Livingstones in Limavady but there is one Livingston in the Parish of Drumachose (Limavady). He is Samuel, renting a house in Pound Lane. This was a street which ran from the end of Protestant Street to what is now Massey Avenue.
Finally I wondered if the John, living in Protestant Street in 1911 with his family, could be the son of Samuel Catherine.

Hi Annie...

Just a thot to share with you....my grt grt Grandmother was Rachel Livingston, (have also found it spelt Levingston) her father was Malcolm...anyways, she lived in Pound lane and Protestant street as Rachel Thompson (she married Robert Thompson in 1869)....I have found it interesting for many years that Samuel lived on the same street, makes me believe there is a connection as families tended to stay in the same area's....but I cannot provide any solid proof yet.

all the best

I know nothing going backwards, but ma in law said that Catherine and Samuel had11 children, John b1878, Mary Jane b 1879, Elizabeth b1881, Hannah b1884, William b1886, George b1888, Isabella b1891 d1891, Marion b1892, Catherine b 1894, Martha b1895, and Samuel b 1897 so if you see any connection here?

Annie,
According to the 1911 census Catherine, who was spending the night at what is now Linenhall Street as a nurse, had 12 Children, 7 of whom were still alive in 1911.

To carry on from the above, a few bits of info have come into my hands recently along with a few photo:

Catherine LIVINGSTONE  and her daughter Marion BAIRD, who's husband was a POW in Germany from 1915-1918. I have a photo of the two women. Any one have knowledge of these either?

Sorry, didn't say thanks!

Great, thanks for that.

Are these extracts online, or have you copies of parish/church transcripts?

Thanks anyway, I'll add these snippets to the old database!

Annie,
These were taken from a subscription site, Emerald Ancestors. However the 1911 census is on line, free, and you can find a Baird family living in Mullagh (Fruithill) whose two eldest sons were James and William. It seems possible that two brothers may have married two sisters. Should I be correct on the families there was another son, Thomas Baird, who died on 1 July 1916 on the Somme.
