Hi,

I have posted a similar thread to this on the Australia board.

I am looking for Michael Doody born in Clare Ireland.  He left Ireland before 1872.  I think he may have been bound for Australia and ended up in New Zealand by 1872.  I am desperate to find him on a vessel, a kind chatter checked FindMyPast but he was not there, is there another paid site that may help me?   Michaels sister also travelled to Australia, I think she married in  Australia  she was Catherine Doody  married Joseph Lawerence Malcolm, she married in 1869.
Sorry this post is a bit rambly :P
Looking for any information on Michael Doody and sister Catherine.

Best regards

There are a few Doody's that show up in passenger lists to Australia on Ancestry:
1. Michael Doody arrived in Sydney, NSW on 18 Jan. 1877 from the port of Rockhampton on the steamship "James Patterson" of the Australasian Steamship company.
2. Mich Doody age 20 arrived in Melbourne from Liverpool on 20 Feb 1863 on the ship Morning Light.
3. There are two entries for Michael Doody on convict ships, one arriving 1843 the other 1846 both convicted in Limerick.  I'm guessing these are too old for your Michael.

4. There is a Doody (no forename given, no gender specified) age 18 (birth abt 1854), nationality Irish, arrived in Melbourne 9 Oct 1872 from Greymouth on the ship Rangitoto
5. Catherine Doody, aged 15, arrived 27 Nov 1849 from  Cahir, Tipperary on the ship William And Mary.

Maybe one of these is the one you're looking for.

Hello toedwar,

Thank you very much for your post :D and for doing all that work on my behalf.
I  am very excited as the Michael Doody you have as number2 could very well be my man, I am convinced there isn't to many Michael Doodys that came to this side of the world.
I cannot thank you enough, I had all but given up on finding out anything ::)

My kindest regards

Michael appear to be travelling with a Margaret aged 19 and were Unassisted Immigrants.  They were the only DOODY's on the MORNING LIGHT  The 20 only refers to his age not the date he arrived.*

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23

DOODY Margaret 19 years  Arrived February 1863  on the MORNING LIGHT Port B [British port] Fiche 213/006
DOODY Michael  20 years  Arrived February 1863 on the MORNING LIGHT  Port B[British port] Fiche 213/006

These microfiche are at PROV and other libraries and collections in Victoria and interstate.

Have you considered Michael may have arrived in South Australia taking into account the marriage of his sister in that state.  Many people who settled in Victoria arrived via South Australia and then travelled overland or by coastal shipping.

Cheers
Cando

Edit - *An online subscription website now has the Victorian Unassisted Immigrants that are at PROV - with information that is not available on the PROV database, - port of embarkation, nationality and full date of arrival.

Hi cando,

Thankyou so very much for that.  Perhaps Margaret is a sister, if this is my Michael, his birth was registered in 1846, but this is the best lead I have so far. I really want it to be him ;) :D :D
Kind regards

The microfiche may give more information.  Unfortunately I can't help with that.  Don't live anywhere near a library.  I suggest requesting further help on the Australian Board.

Cheers
