Ancestry forgotten about me???
« on: Saturday 12 December 09 14:14 GMT (UK) »
For my birthday last year (In May) I was given FTM 2009 and as usual those things come with 6months free trail... I didnt activate the voucher straight away but when I did it said I had until the 26th of November until the voucher runs out. Well its the 12th of December today (which Im sure your aware of  :D) and I can still get access to records, Im not complaining by any means but I was just wondering if anyone else has to this happen to them? and how long do you think I could get before they catch me?

Yes, me too. Exactly the same scenario. My 'free' 6 months ran out in October.  I changed to FindMyPast for the 1911 census which I would have done anyway (intending to go back to Ancestry later - particularly for the 20th century deaths which I knew would be coming).  After a while I realised that I still had access to the Ancestry records as well.  I do feel a bit guilty though  :-[.

(Mind you - I never liked FTM 2009 and have now paid for Family Historian 4 - so those 6 months weren't exactly free after all)

Silly question!! :D  Did you have to submit a debit/credit card number?  If you did then you can bet your bottom dollar (now where did that expression come from?) that your card will have been debited!!

Ancestry do not have my card details.  I checked when I realised what had happened.  (At first I thought it was just letting me see images I'd looked at before so it did take me a while to twig - I was busy with my 1911 sub at the time ;)). When I signed up for the free six months all I had to give was the code that came with my copy of FTM.

I won with them too, after paying for a year, I was waiting to pay for my second, but had no reminder and forgot all about it. A couple of months later suddenly my access stopped!
This reminded me, and I checked back through bank statements to see if they had 'automatically' renewed me and taken the money, but no.
When I phoned, they acknowledged that I had  had a couple of months free.

Had something similar many years ago when a family member bought me a years subscription to Readers Digest.. Kept getting issues for the following 6 or 7 months after.

Think it has something to do with when companies delete your name from their files.
