Manchester Royal Exchange

I would like to find out what the job of a porter at the Exchange would have involved about the time 1809-1820. Does anyone know if there are any books or other sources which could tell me? I have the dates for the building and descriptions of the dealers from Victorian times but this is obviously before this time. Also would like to know what the difference is between a porter and a warehouseman.
Any suggestions most welcome.
Thanks

I would say a porter would have been on door duty or a person who would carry baggage or goods.A warehouseman would have been a person who worked in a warehouse either keeping check on stock or preparing goods to be sent out as orders.

I think
