COMPLETED Nursing Home-Ayr 1933
« on: Monday 22 March 10 20:58 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with this.

I am trying to find out any information on a Nursing Home at 29 Racecourse Road, Ayr in 1933. Could it have been a Maternity Hospital.

Thank you for that. I will see if they have an e-mail address if not, there is a phone number.

I am hoping to get information on whether it was a Nursing Home or Maternity Hospital in 1933.

elinga,

I phoned them and they confirm it was a Maternity Nursing Home.

Thank you for finding their address. I hope to visit Ayr in the next week or so and do some research.

Hi,
My husbands cousin was born at south lodge maternity home in 1949,if you are in ayr why not visit the carnegie library, main street, they have fantastic local and family history department, also many monumental inscription books,
There is a family history centre at the local lds church, mossgiel road,I think you need to phone for opening times, they hold ayrshire records too.

Hi,

Thank you for that information. Do you think it was called South Lodge Maternity Home in 1933. The only info I have is that is was a Nursing Home at 29 Racecourse Road.

Would help me, knowing it was a Maternity Home.

I don't know when I'll manage to Ayr but, will certainly visit the Carnegie library.

Hi,
Certainly was a maternity home, from at least the first world war,my father in law was an expert on the history of Ayr,most of the building is newer,it was extended when it became a nursing home, run by south ayrshire council now,not sure when it ceased to be a maternity home, possibly when thorneyflat maternity home was opened sometime 1950's it has closed now too and all maternity services at crosshouse, kilmarnock.
