Hi Charlotte

According to the article, Glynn Jones was a professional footballer until war broke out.

As mentioned, players who joined the services could make themselves available to play for the closest club to where they were stationed

Thanks Gadget... I realized that this would be, at best, on the borders of your time frame.

I doubt if Glynn Jones was born 1916- probably mid 20s...I'll look up CWGC to see.

Simon , yes, the article says he was a pro  but did the clubs/teams with which he was connected have any clout at that time? I guess what I'm asking is, was he any good or is it a beat up?
Bit clumsy with the football lingo- not my territory  :-[

Thank you both for your replies.

Thanks again,
charlotte

Simon - the only one I have played for Cardiff City. Do you have any later info?

I have emailed Charlton Athletic

At this moment it is hard to know if he was VERY good.  It depends how many players were available at any one time to the war time clubs

Simon, Thank you.

If you get an answer I'd be very happy to know what they have to say but please don't trouble yourself to pursue this if it gets complicated or time consuming.

Thanks again,
charlotte

I was wondering why a Doncaster boy signed for Charlton  ??? ???

Charlton were one of the top teams in the country in the 1930's, they came Runners-up, fourth and third in the 1st Division in the three years prior to the war.

Hi Gadget,
Would you be so kind as to look up my grandfather Francis (Frank) James Corbett who played for West Bromwich Albion from 1926 until 1931, then Coventry City for the following season.....would be very interested to what information the book offers.
Many thanks
Alyson
