Land Registry in Henrietta St in Dublin may be able to help if Willie Curley owned land/farm in 1974 when he died. If you could locate that you'd also have the previous owners
There are Curleys around Ballinasloe, Co. Galway where there is also a place name CREAGH on the edge of the town.
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley

Hi all
I took a break from my Curleys over the past while because I was finding locating them a problem until I found them in the census returns from Galway. They lived in lenanmarla in the ballinakill parish and I was told this is on the border between Galway and Roscommon so if I'm posting in the wrong place I'm sure the moderator will move it.

In looking for more information on Anne curly(not sure of maiden name-possibly neary) born c. 1869 and her husband John born c. 1849. I'd love to know their parents names and any siblings if anyone can oblige?

Thanks in advance

Val

Is this the family you mean ?

  Curley family, Leanmarla - 1901

The first step is try to establish Anne's maiden name by searching for one of the children's birth certs. This would be needed to start your search for the marriage. A marriage cert will show father's names for both John and Ann, and take you one step further back.

The townland of Lenanmarla / Leanmarla is in the civil registration district of Glennamaddy, which might help narrow down the correct births, and possibly the marriage is both bride and grooms also came from that area.

By the way the Balinakill mentioned on the census returns is the Electoral District. The civil parish appears to be Kilbegnet.

They're my curleys!! Thanks for the heads up on the "glenamaddy" district. I'm useless knowing the areas outside Dublin for registration. Hopefully I can confirm a maiden name for Anne and will lead me to a marriage cert and beyond!!

I'm sure you already have this... but for reference in case anyone else has any clues

the family are listed in the same townland on the 1911 census :

  Curley family, Lenanmarla - 1911

your hunch about Anne's maiden name could be right... there's a possible marriage cross reference around the right time. The birth cert may prove it but might be worth getting this cert also :

 Name:   John Curley
 Registration district:   Roscommon
 Event type:   MARRIAGES
Quarter and year:   Jan - Mar 1885
 Volume : 3 / page : 314

 name:   Anne Neary
 [same references as John]

Lenanmarla / Leanmarla is very close to the county border (about 1km) with Roscommon, so it could fit.

......
My grandmothers' family were from Roscommon from an area my mother and aunt have called 'Clegg'. The family were the Curley's and they had a farm in where they call Clegg (or Cleggs). I cannot find any reference to Clegg anywhere only Creagh. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm for me whether this place exists (or existed) and if anyone knows what it would come under area-wise in the 1911/1901 Census......
.....

I just a mention of 'Clegg' in your first post in this thread ... I spotted something similar google maps when I was looking for Lenanmarla. There's a town named Creggs a short distance (just over 3km) to the south east of Lenanmarla, and right on the Galway / Roscommon county border  - see Lenanmarla to Creggs  (google map).
