Thanks

Hello Anne

It looks at first sight as though Harry MAY might have been using two names.  What are the details of the Irish 1911 census - have you traced the husband on that back throught the census based on his age and birthdate?

Edited to add: another thread here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,450438.msg3117044.html#msg3117044

Seems he just gave his place of birth as England.

Have you traced William GREAVES forward to 1911 instead - can you find him in England?

You've guessed it - I'm only a guest again when I try to reply to Arran Roots -will some one merge for me please?

Hello Arranroots -

No census before 1911 for Harry May (at least not with the information he gave us) and no records of Wiliam Greaves after his 1908 marriage to Gran -

I think it is as you say, Granddad changed his name.

It is a big shock for all of us and we are trying to find out now what the scandal was (as has been inferred in another history forum which links relatives)

Thanks for the interest

Anne
