Thomas was married to Mathieson Nelson, and is the brother of my Great Grandfather JOHN ALEXANDER GIBSON b 26 August 1850 and married to Mary Hopper

Can you send some details as all I have is the 4 brothers, Anderson b 1889 , George, Thomas b 1894   & John b 1897

I'm thinking that John Alexander Gibson is not the brother of Thomas, but the cousin of Thomas. John Alexander is the son of William who worked the Burnhall farm with Anderson.  Both families resided on the farm. Hope this doesn't confuse anyone...

that would be my finding as well from census papers where the two were farmers on same farm at same time and had many children of same or similar names.

so where does this John Gibson and Elizabeth Miller marriage fit into the Gibson's (Anderson & William) who farmed at Burnhall in Coldingham in 1861 and 1871 census?
I have also traced a James GIBSON & Elizabeth  at Heaghhead in the 1841 census, could they be the same couple, with Robert age 9, Mary 6, Margaret 4 & Isabella 1?

I cannot think that there were only two brothers in and around 1820, although I have a Thomas born in about 1829, all sons of DAVID GIBSON & ISABELLA RENTON.

I have a print from the O.P.R. marriages ref 738/00 0030 0196 Edrom, but the first entry on that page is for a  James Gibson, hind Greenknowes and Beatrice Haig of Bunkle and their marriage ion 4th June 1830.
I think I can trace this family in the 1851 census, still in Bunkle and Preston with children
Joseph age 12, James 9, Margaret 6, Robert 4 and William 1
I will try and get hold of the 1861 census again for Bunkle & Preston and check.

any help would be useful, even if this data is incorrect, it eliminates some possibilities.

James Gibson and Beatrice Haig are my gg grandparents.  Know a bit  more about the Haigs but haven't (yet) got around to doing too much on the Gibson side so I probably won't be much help at the moment but willing to share what I do find.
