Living half sister thought to be resident in Berkshire
« on: Sunday 01 August 10 14:18 BST (UK) »
Given that my request involves a living person(s), I understand that I need to be mindful of what detail I can provide on an open forum.

After my mother died I learned from one of her estranged siblings that she had been married previously and that there were three children by that union. This relative was aged and was not able to tell me the gender or names of my half-brothers / sisters.

He did however know the name of her first spouse: Leonard Theodore Wilson. The marriage certificate shows that my mother married Leonard at Marylebone , London in 1937. He gave his age at that time as 27 years. My mother was Harriet Matthews born at Wales in 1914.

I have been a member of Ancestry.co.uk for a year now and that is where I found details of the marriage. All other searches to trace their children came to nothing.

However, just a few days ago I tried another search and it disclosed a living person resident in Berkshire who lists Leonard and my mother as their parents.

The public tree was posted by their partner, who has not accessed Ancestry for over six months. My messages to the tree owner have not been answered. I assume if they no longer subscribes  to Ancestry, they will not have been alerted to my messages.

I have tried telephoning Berkshire telephone subscribers with the same (unusual) surname as 'living' half-sister's partner, but again none of those I have contacted know of the individual in question.

My assumption is that having posted details on a public tree they would be aware that it could be researched by other interested parties, and that they may welcome contact.

Again my research of social networking sites has failed to locate them.

What I was looking for was if someone local to Berkshire could research local resources on my behalf.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hope I haven't got this too late. I have recently joined Ancestry.co.UK and only just found this message. I believe the Living relative you refer to is my Mother. She was born in London and her mother was Harriet May Matthews who married Leonard Theodore Wilson in 1937. I would like to communicate to establish whether your Mother and my Grandmother are the same person.

Hoping for a reply

Harriet May Matthews and Leonard Wilson

Hello jb64_uk,

Thank you for your reply to my post.

My mother was born in Wales. I know from my own research that she married Leonard Wilson at Marylebone in London in 1937.

She married my father in Scotland in 1945. As far as I am aware my mother and father met at Luton during the war, and she returned to Scotland with my father.

My mother was estranged from her two surviving brothers for many years. One of her brothers onfided in me that my mother had been married previously. He told me that she had three children to Leonard, but I cannot confirm that.

My mother died in 1991 and all of my mothers generation are also now deceased.

I found a reference on a public family tree on Ancestry that showed that a 'living' Wilson's parents were Harriet May Matthews and Leonard Theodore Wilson. From the information available, I believe that she was a partner of a man with the surname Wing and that at the time of the post they resided in Berkshire.

Given the information that is common to both our ancestors; i.e. full names and date and place of marriage; it looks highly likely that we are speaking of the same people.

It just so happens that I wioll be in Berkshire next week for a wedding; and I had intended to make some enquiry with electoral registers in an attempt to trace families named WING resident in Berkshire.

Is your mother still alive: and did she indeed have two other siblings?

Best Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom

Welcome back  ;D

Just a gentle reminder to you both of our 'no living people' policy.

Regards

Dawn

Ooh both TFC and jb6_uk are online at the moment  ;D  (you can tell by the little green scroll under a person's name - if it's bright green they're logged in to Rootschat)

Both of you need to post a couple more times on this board so you can contact each other via Personal Message (PM as mentioned by Carol below).  When you've both got 3 or more posts under your name then click on the little green scroll and you can send a PM that only you two can see.  Then you can swop details of living people or exchange email addresses without fear of getting lots of spam messages.

Hope you'll let us know if you are related  :)

Hi

Thank you for replying to my post. I have my Grandmothers family history going back to the manleys in 19th centuary wales but nothing after 1939. I can confirm that she had three children with Leonard. I have absolutely no details for Leonard other than he was a Journeyman Baker. According to my Mother he may have died during the second war. I am a member of ancestry.co.uk if posting here is a problem.

Yes  it does TFC  :)   If you look under the stars beneath your name, that'll show how many posts you've made - you have three now.

You could try sending jb6_uk a personal message, though he might need to do three posts as well - worth a try  ;D
