Michael MORIARTY and Margaret MURPHY
« on: Wednesday 11 August 10 17:07 BST (UK) »
Hi

Michael and Margaret were married in Tralee on 4 May 1899 and had 7 children that I know of (in no particular birth order) :

Joseph born in Dingle Workhouse

The rest were born in Castlegregory:

Agnes
Irene Elizabeth
Austin died as a baby and is buried in Castlegregory.
Leo
Patrick
Margarita (Rita).

Michael was a train driver on the Dingle to Tralee Railway and died in the 1950's.

We were led to believe that Michael was born in County Wexford, but on both 1901 and 1911 census it states that he was from County Kerry.  He moved to England in the 1930's.

I am trying to find out anything at all about the above people.  We know about Irene Elizabeth as she is the link to the present day for us.

Thank you

Nickie

I've just seen both of those as well.  They are both close in age and in the same area.  It doesn't help does it, why couldn't families try out different names and not copy everyone else?

Just jused my date calculator and he would have been born sometime in 1872 as the 1911 census shows he was 39 and the census was 02.04.1911.

No cert as yet.

Do you know if I would be able to get a copy from Tralee Records Office?

GRO is the place for certs - see : Introduction to Irish Records

I'll have a look in the index a little later..

I would always recommend researching one step at a time - i.e. get the marriage cert to confirm father's name and occupation, then search for births/baptisms, and use the marriage cert details to verify or rule out any of these.

....

not all ages on census returns are accurate - you need to allow a couple of years either way at least (as well as allowing another year for different birth dates - i.e. before April)

what age was he on the 1901 census ?
