Joseph Evans - Marston Moretaine Look Up Req
« on: Sunday 22 August 10 11:44 BST (UK) »
hi

I am wondering if anybody can help with a look up for Joseph Evans in Marston Moretaine. Believed to have been married to Mary (Hart i think) and had a son Samuel in 1802.
This is the information I have, but not confirmed. Joseph Evans and Mary Hart (married 09/01/1797) with Joseph being christened on 22/05/1774 in Marston Moretyne.

Thanks for any help

Mark

Yes he is my son and has been trying to help me out. I presume he has posted an enquiry.

He has become very interested in the family history research I am doing.

Sorry if we are duplicating one another.

Joseph Evans and Mary Hart were my 4
 x great grandparents.
Info I have:Joseph Evans born 1744,Marston Moretaine.Married Ann Munday.
Children of this marriage were:Elizabeth,1765.Mary,1770.Joseph,1774.All born Marston Mortaine.
Joseph 1774,married Mary Hart,born1776,Marston.

I have only one child born to them in Marston,William,born1797,married a Sarah Munday.
Children of this marriage were:Joseph1825 (my gg  grandfather),married Caroline Ellis from Broughton,Bucks.
Mary Anne 1826,Sarah,1827,Joy,1829,William,1831.Thomas1836.Elizabeth,1838.All born Marston.

As you say there was a family of Evans in Toddington, quite possibly the Joseph and Mary you are seeking
.Children I have found for them:John,1799.Samuel,1802.Anne,1804.Thomas,1807.Benjamin1810.I will need to check PR's on this.

Hope this is of help.

Hi Pedder

We have always believed, perhaps wrongly that the Joseph Evans in Marston (your 4xGG) is in fact the father of Samuel (1802). In fact if I recall correctly we found a internet record about it. But now with your information I am not so sure.

We have a Joseph Evans (1733) married to Ann Munday having son Joseph (1774) marrying Mary Hart. According to our research J Evans (1733) had a father/ mother John Evans / Elizabeth Hill.

We have Joseph (1774) with the following children

 William Evans 1797 –  Samuel Evans 1802 – 1880 Thomas Evans 1807

I am a little confused and think that potentially we are both right.

I hope we can confirm it one way or the other.

Regards

Mark Evans

Hi,Yes,this is my family.Children I have for Joseph and Caroline are:
William,1845
Jane 1848
Fanny 1850
George 1850
Emma 1854
Edward 1856
Isabella 1858
Abigail 1860
Joseph 1866
Mary 1870.
All were born in Marston.

Jane was the sister of my g grandfather Joseph (1866).
I have come accross the Copperwheat connection previously, haven't added it to my tree as yet,it's all still on paper copy. (Is this the same family of Copperwheat who had a farm shop near Flitwick until a few years ago?]

My g grandfather Joseph married Harriet Phillips from Ampthill. They settled in Ampthill for a while, also living in Bedford,he was also a butcher, having shops in Bedford and Ampthill.(I remember the shop in Ampthill,it was still open in the late 50's when I was a child, and was run by Josephs grandson Trevor).

Joseph and Harriett had children:
Beatrice 1887
Harry 1889
Evaline1890
Lilian 1892 (my grandmother)
Made1895
Ida1899
Reginald1900
Doris1905
Elsie1906.All were born in Ampthill.
Joseph and harriet then moved to Westoning where they bought Clay Hill Farm and carried on their trade of butchers.I have a tree on Genes with photos added ,unfortunately I don't subscribe to Ancestry any more asit worked out too expensive after I had done most of my family research.Good to be in contact with you  and look forward to sharing more family history.
Chris
