Sirrs of Fermanagh
« on: Friday 09 February 07 21:52 GMT (UK) »
ROSS, Henry Would someone search for birth record for Henry? He was born 1806 Fermanagh North Ireland.

He married Elizabeth ‘Letitia’ Sirr Aug 1847 in Ontario. He died in Peel Country, Ontario May 16, 1875.
Would someone look up their marriage record?

SIRR, William Would someone look up birth record for William? He was born 1800 Fermanagh North Ireland.
He married Ann (no surname known).

Would someone look up the marriage record for William SIRR and Ann (no surname) sometime before 1826 when their first child was born.

Would someone look up the birth records of their 4 children born in Fermanagh, Ireland.
Elizabeth ‘Letitia’ 1826; Amelia (Emily) 1827; Elisha 1828 and Sarah 1829)
Birth record may show  mother’s maiden name.

I'll try the two born in Canada.
John in Hudson, Quebec Jul 9 1834
Thomas in Ontario 1842

Assuming they emigrated to Canada 1834, would someone look up emigration from Ireland record? They would have been traveling with 4 children and she maybe she was pregnant, since she had Thomas in Quebec is a designated entry port.

It is written in “Simcoe Early Settlers” William + Ann immigrated to Simcoe Ontario Canada from Ireland 1830's.

We assume in Fermanagh as their first 3 children were born there.

I have looked thru many sites in hopes of finding my SIRR line.
we have CDN records showing children born in Fermanagh.
but I cannot find a SIRR anywhere...birth,marriage or death.
is this a typical Irish name?
maybe our CDN records are incorrect.

Hiya shaw.shoo,
When did your ancestors leave Fermanagh ???

There's no mention of that surname anywhere in Ireland in Griffith's Valuation 1848-64.
There were a couple of families named Sirr. They were in Galway, Monaghan and Roscommon.

As you may have guessed already - Sirr is/was not a common name in Ireland.

Having said that, Origins www.originsnetwork.com have records of them in Galway, Roscommon, Monaghan and WestMeath.

What other details do you have for them?

Rhodes - Wistow, Yorkshire
Moorman- Isle of Wight
Oliver - Surrey
White & Delaney - Dublin

Christopher.
My ancestors came to Canada early 1830's. First arrived in Quebec where a son was born 1834.
I don't have my list of Irish counties in Fermanagh...are Galway, Monaghan and Roscommon in Fermanagh?
could you provide the Sirr information you found?

Mossy
many thanks for sending the Sirrs you found. I presume these are marriages.

hopefully, this will give us an area in Fermanagh to begin.

Hi Ronnie,
glad you replied. If Sirr is not a common name in Ireland then one would think my ancestors should be easy to find.

Wm Sirr b 1801 married Ann ? in 1825. They were both born and married in Fermanagh. They had 4 girls born there also.
Letitia 1826; Amelia 1827; Elish 1828 and Sarah 1829.

I tried originsnetwork site but it seems one has to subscribe to get any information. I use public access internet so it is not feasible for me to join these types of site.

Maybe you may find something.
