« on: Thursday 25 November 10 12:03 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody know where the Nags Head Yard in Wellingborough was  as quite a few times I have come across this while doing my genealogy.

Hi Craftyp,

I cannot remember exactly where it was but it was at the Broad Green end of the High Street.

Hope that helps.

Thankyou for your reply, I had given up hope of getting one  Can you remember if it was anything to do with a public house? It may well have been where there are garages standing now on the right hand side as most of the properties are fairly old in that area.

Hi Crafty P,

Now that you have reminded me (I haven't lived in the area since 1967) I think that you are right, and yes there was a pub too. There are references to the Nag's Head Yard going back to at least 1813 so it was fairly old. I can remember the old properties being pulled down and the car showroom being built, just can't picture what it looked like before. :-[

I would have replied.  :)

Not having been around for a week I was looking up old maps etc
alot of today.

Good that you now have it as it was also the only reference I found
being at the back of the Public House.

" The Nags Head public house was a much attended venue during the late 60's
The pub still had an orchard at that time with Gents toilets "up the yard". ..."

Hello Sandy,

I think your reference is to the Nag's Head at Wollaston unless my Googling has led me astray.

The grey cells have finally gotten together and the Nag's Head at Wellingborough was definitely on the right side of Broad Green, certainly don't remember an orchard but there was a shoe factory up the alley next to it, though who's? Yorks?

Guess I'm not old enough yet to remember all the details of my childhood. :-X

If it is Paul then I am more stupid than I thought. LOL.

I will put the heading of the message it was noted under.

I know Wellingborough quite well too.  :)

Just goo*** "Memories of Wellingborough - Francis Frith".

Hi again Sandy,

Not sure how to break this to you but under the story it is marked...
A memory of Wollaston, shared by Mick Austin
and the photo is definitely not right, it is captioned...
The Square c1955, Wollaston.

Having said that I cannot find a picture of the Wellingborough Nag's Head which from memory was white with black doors and window frames in my short trousered days. :-[

Regards,
Paul
