I'd like to be able to find the 1888 Birth of my great uncle Charles  in County Down. Do you have to order it from PRONI ?

His birth listed on Belfast 1901 Census....
his name is... McD*vitt, Charles Peter McShane  1888 Co Down
I'm certain that my gtgranny's Armstrong's, Valentine, William, George as well as the Joyce kin her granny being Isabella Joyce also lived there or in the area of Drumlyn Hill/Tandragee/Tullylish near Gilford ?  since ca 1700's
Thank you

Is this him in the 1901 census?
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/St__George_s_Ward_Belfast/Malone_Place/956298

I can't see a match for his birth registration in the civil index but you can have a look yourself-

And here's advice on ordering Northern Ireland certificates once you get the index details needed to order it-

I checked out our Aghadowey’s suggestion ‘is this him’ in a reference to the 1901 census, I looked this up, then went further into the detail on offer, so going below the basic transcribed typed census return  the first other report is one called Household Return (Form A). In this particular entry, mistakes or errors have been partially corrected, for example Isabella can read only, so she didn’t fill in the form…. William born Banbridge crossed out and replaced with Co Down, the other children appear to be City of Belfast   I wondered if the Banbridge one could be the easiest to confirm unless it was another error.
hoping no red herrings, JIm

Thanks to Aghadowey & Ballytikilligan for your replies. Yes that is Charles on the 1901 Census
A few of the older children born in Glasgow, Gtgranparents came back to Belfast in ca 1877.
Appreciate suggestions and help. I should mention that Gtgrda was R..C and Gtgran was Presbyt and both religions were practised while Gtgrda was alive. by the children..so would this have any bearing on the registration I wonder? So Banbridge ... was that neat the areas of Drumlyn Hill?

Civil registration of all births in Ireland, regardless of religion, started in 1864.

Drumlin Hill [google is good on locating joyce connection] is in Tullylish parish nr Gilford and less than four miles from Banbridge.  Banbridge might have been the closest registry office at the time.
