Southams in Egham and Surrey
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 22:39 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any infomation on a William Southam
married to a Selena Blay
 in1845 Egham ,Surrey,
At St John the baptist Church in Egham
Unfortunatly I can't find his birthplace or d/o/b

Or a Jonathan Southam(his father)
Not Sure where he comes from either
but he is down on Williams and Selena's
 Marriage certificate!!

As their are lots of Southams in and around Surrey, I wondered if anyone has any infomation.Anything would be helpfull as I have hit a brick wall!
I live in the Midlands so it is difficult to get down there!
Hoping you can help!!!!

Hi, welcome to Rootschat.

Have you found him in any censuses?

This might be Selena in 1851, but no sign of William

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

That is Selina in 1851 and in 1871 she is shown as the wife of James Young

In 1851 she is not shown as widowed so unless William died early on in their marriage - it looks as though she went off with somebody else.  There is no marriage between James Young and Selina on freebmd

How old was William on the marriage cert - or is he just shown as "full age"

What was his occupation

I can't see a death between 1845 and 1890 apart from a William Henry Southam aged 67 in St Olave in 1878.

In 1881 Selina is shown as Young and is a widow

I think somebody else is researching this same family as amendments have been made to the transcription errors in her surname back in 2009 by somebody who knew her maiden name was Blay

I will send that person an email with the link to this post as they may have more info for you

Hi Jan

No - I can't see an 1841 or 1861 entry that fits.  Nothing on the IGI either with a father Jonathon

Could this be William in 1841 amended to Southam, possibly by the same person Carole found?

HO 107/663/bk1 folio 22 page 5
