Hello Amanda,
do you have any rough dates for your g.g grandfather as I've found a Harold Keeling aged 7 on the 1901 census along with an elder sister Mary Ann and younger brother James in the workhouse in Stoke. What age was your g.g grandfather when he died, this may help pinpoint if this Harold is the same person. There are no other Harold Keelings in the Stoke on Trent area in 1901.
Regards
Bri

hi Bri,

that is deffinitly my g.grandfather  spoke to dad and he has gave me more info. Harold keeling died in 1955, he did have a sister called mary ann they didn't  know of a brother but it is possible.  I have also found out that Harold's wife was Edith Mary ( G Grandma) Harrolds sister Mary Ann we think her married name was Mary Ann Goldstraw. Sorry we do not have any dates for her. Also we have no knowledge of any details of family further back i.e harolds parents names. If possible please could you do me a search on the census.

I do know that my  grand father John Henry Keeling was around born 1920. I await to hear from you.

so excited
thanks
again ;D

Hi Amanda,

I have had a look at the Census data Bri had found. Unfortunately, the 3 children are the only ones bearing the surname Keeling in the workhouse. There is Mary Ann age 10, birthplace not known,  Harold age 7 born Stoke and James age 4 born Stoke.

On http://freebmd.rootsweb.com
there is a birth for a Mary Ann Keeling registered in 1891 March quarter in Stoke on Trent district. The reference is Volume 6b page 197.  There is a also a birth for Harold in the same district, September 1894 quarter, ref. 6b 203. And a James Adam who would fit the age March quarter 1897, 6b 191.
If you order a birth certificate for one of the children, you would get the parents' names. But first I'm off checking if I can find Mary Ann on the 1891 Census.

On 1891 Census, this looks like the only possible match:
Stoke upon Trent at 44 Abbey Road:

Sampson Goldstraw, head, married, 25, Coal Miner born Staffordshire Leek
Elizabeth (or Ruth?) Keeling, housekeeper, married, 29, b. Staffordshire Burslem
Thomas Keeling, children of housekeeper, 9, scholar, born Staffs Hanley
Francis Keeling, do, 2, born Hanley
Mary Ann, do, 4 mths born Hanley

RG12/2166 ED 6 Folio 123 p. 7

Strange they are both married but none of the partners are there...

Cheers

thanks for this, more information than we have ever had on the family.

spoke to my dad again. possibility (just a thought) can you see if sampson had any sisters called Edith Mary as if so seems as though Edith then married harold keeling.

also is thomas, francis, and mary ann brothers and sisters born of just elizabeth n or sampson. Sorry really excited.

thanks
