Another thought.  "Mrs GURR and child" . . . was one of the wives and child returning in 1850 after a visit to the UK.

Joshua and wife Jean had only one child John, born 1846 and married in 1869 to Emma BLEECHMORE. I think the following was Joshua and his family who visited the UK, and most likely it was Joshua's wife and child returning from a visit in 1850.

South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839-1900)
Monday 17 July 1871 p 6 Article ... PASSENGERS FROM ENGLAND. Per CARNAQUHEEN—Mr. and Mrs. J. Gurr, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gurr, jun., and infant, in the cabin.

These two couples minus the infant left for London on 16 Dec 1869.
CLEARED.
Saturday, December 18.
GLEN OSMOND, ship, 850 tons, W. Marchant, master, for London.
Passengers—Mr. and Mrs Gurr, sen., Mr. and Mrs. Gurr, jun., in the cabin

No birth record in SA for the first child Jean Eva born c1871 to John Henry and his wife.

I have just found this thread.   :)   I have the Gurr family in my tree, but have only scant information.

My interest is from William Valentine Gurr and his wife Bessie Gibson.

Cheers, Chris.

Thanks, Merlin, for the information on Matilda Salina GURR.   :D   :D

Her father William GURR died on 4th Feb 1902, so if Matilda Salina had been his unmarried daughter who'd stayed with him until then, she's have needed a home. Possibly she went to housekeep for her B I L and ended up marrying him.

Cristobel, have you found all the references for your line of Gurrs on TROVE Newspapers?

Hi,

Thanks.  I will check out the Trove site.  The Gurr family is one that I haven't done much research on.  It's on the long list of "To Do"    :)

Cheers, Chris

Terence Milton and Clarice Doreen.
Gladys Millicent Lilac GURR was born on 1 Jan 1896 in Adelaide.
Gladys married George Renton HIBBERTT, son of Charles H HIBBERTT and Unknown, on 23 Jan 1917 in St
Saviour, Glen Osmond, Norwood. George was born about 1890. They had four children: Gladys Jean, Gwendoline
Doris, Betty and Doreen Joyce.
Terence Milton GURR was born on 6 Apr 1899 in Adelaide.

Hi bj

The Biographical Index of SA names Victoria but BISA is known to have errors.
I hadn't noticed Victoria was not on the passenger list as I was concentrating on which male GURRs arrived prior to 1850.

The next child named was Albert and it was in the era of a young Queen Victoria and her Consort Albert, and I noticed they named son Sultan after the ship on which he was born.
