Hi Kimberlynn

There are no births/baptisms showing in Stornoway for Margaret during that time period. Do you know what religion the family were?

The 1861 census have three possibles:

One aged 9, with parents Kenneth and Mary
One aged9 , with mother, Mary
One aged 6, with parents Norman and Catherine

* no obvious Peggys

Do you have any information about any children she may have had in case she named  them for her parents?

This looks a possible then:

1861

Lochs, Lewis

Donald MacLean, 50, Crofter
Mary, 50
Catharine, 25
Annie, 15
Margaret, 10

All born Lochs

Lochs is the parish just to the south of Stornoway:

I'll see if I can find anything else.

This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

I'm ever so sorry  :-[ - the census I gave info for was the 1861 and not the 1851 - i was thinking of the year of her birth and typed that. I'll amend the posting

Here's the 1861 family in 1851:

Leurbost, Lochs

Donald Maclean, 42, farmer of 2 acres*
Mary, 42
Catharine, 15
Malcolm, 10
Anne, 6
Mary, 4
Margaret, 6 months

All b. Lochs

* at this time, when there was a process of land reform/clearances, the occupations varied between censuses - crofter, farmer, lotter, tenant. Tenancies were not regularised until the Crofting Act of 1886, which gave security of tenure to the crofters.

What is Donald's occupation on the marriage cert.?
