William Bredin, Agherlurcher.
« on: Tuesday 01 February 11 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with information about William Robert Bredin please? He was born in Agherlurcher on 15th April 1857, his father was James Bredin(a painter), and his mother may have been Margaret. There was a brother Robert, born in 1868. William married my ggrandmother in Westminster in 1889; he was in Northumberland in1881 according to the census.  I have no experience as yet of Irish records, and would greatly appreciate any information or advice.
Many thanks.

What sort of information are you looking for about William Bredin?
He was born before civil registration of births so there will be no birth certificate. To find a possible baptism record you need to know the family's religion and then see if the local church has records covering that period.

His brother Robert, born 1868, should have a birth certificate which would confirm mother's first and maiden name.
The IGI (www.familysearch.org) has a birth for a Robert Bredin born 26 July 1867 Co. Fermanagh- parents James Bredin and Margaret Houston

The 1901 census has a John Bredin, painter, age 81, perhaps related?

I don't think he was catholic. Probably a daft question, but would there be just one church for the area, and how do I find out more?
The other information sounds very promising, and I will look for the birth certificate. Thank you very much for your help!

You'd need to be sure that James Bredin and Margaret Houston are the correct parents for your William.

Hi,
I have found two more children born to James Bredin and Margaret Houston. Like Robert, already mentioned, they were all registered in Brookeborough, Co. Fermanagh.
7 Mar 1865  Emma
1 May 1869 Samuel.

Hi
It comes from the familysearch record search site
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections&r=1
Select Ireland births and enter James Bredin and select Fermanagh as the Place.
