Stephenson's Yard, Hull
« on: Thursday 12 May 11 13:56 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about a place called Stephenson's Yard in Hull back in 1843?
It is the address given on a marriage cert, I am guessing it is a work place of some sort own by someone called Stephenson!! Another guess would be that Stephenson is a boatbuilder.  My ggggrandfather Richard Smith was a shipbuilder living there, he went on to become the joint owner of a shipbuilding business in Grimsby called  Smith & Stephenson Boat Builders.

What does this mean?  Noms to gen council?
This address is excellent news as I have found a 1841 census that could be him.  Chariot Street, the only problem was that the father John was a saddler not a coachbuilder.  Not the same thing is it?

Big, hugh, thanks

Chariot Street was in Sculcoates - and a lot of businesses located there. Two pub names mentioned - The Paragon Inn and the Neptune Inn.

Is this Stephenson's Yard?
