(Sutton) workhouse

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction, I need information on a workhouse. 

I am trying to find a fella by the name of John Knight b.abt. 1835 he was apparently
In the (Sutton) workhouse in 1841 with his mother Mary b.abt 1811

Any help with this would be most welcome

Do you have John and Mary in the workhouse in the 1841 census? If not, would you like me to try to find them? (where were they born?)

Also, in which Sutton is the workhouse located? There are a lot of Mary Knights b 1811 on the 1841 census, so I need a bit more information to narrow her down.

Thanks for the offer…   I have found them on the 1841 census with about 80 other people
But i'm a bit confused, never came across anyone in a workhouse before.

 I had the information on the Sutton workhouse from another source just don’t know where or what it is…  this workhouse business is all new to me

OK, I found them in "Workhouse in Sutton". Ref is HO107/517/38/4. The only other thing it tells you is that they were both born in the County of Lancashire.

There is mention of it on the link I provided above - look under Lancashire, then Prescot.

That link should provide you with loads of information about Workhouses.

You might have to do a bit of detective work to find out why they ended up there.

Do you know who Mary married? Have you found them in later censuses?
