Thank you very much for the Russell and Brownlie photos and inscriptions!   I will compare my notes and see if I can link to the correct family branches.   Be glad for comments from others, too.

Looking for a burial in Wishaw
« Reply #129 on: Thursday 11 August 16 19:45 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for my great grandparents burial spot.
Mary Mulligan died 1939 in Wishaw and John Paterson died in 1929. Both were Catholics and I am unfamiliar with what cemetery they would be buried in . Any chance you could help

I only have the Cambusnethan records up to about 1917, so I can't tell if they are buried there. (I am assuming they died in or around Wishaw?) It may be easier to contact North Lanarkshire Council Cemeteries department or even Motherwell Heritage Centre, I think the old cemetery books are kept there now.

Hi Lodger
Hoping you can assist. I am currently waiting on Scotlandspeople new web site to come up to get the actual death print outs but certain of the area and time frame.
Looking for anything regarding the John GRAY (Born c 1799 - 1801)  who has died between the 1851 - 1861 Census, last living at 15 Burnside Row Cambusnethan. He was married to Elizabeth YARDLEY (various spellings), ( born actually in 1805, but Census give age as between 1800 - 1802) she has died between the 1871 - 1881 Census. 1871 She was living with Daughter Mary Pollok in Binnies Rows Cambusnethan.
I have worked out via familysearch they had the following children:
John Gray c 1826 Cambusnethan
Ann Gray c 1829, Carmichael - married to Hugh Muir
David Gray c 1832 Carmichael
Margaret Gray c 1839 Midlothian
Mary c 1841 Cambusnethan - married to John Pollok

As they were all coal miners I do not expect an MI, most likely buried in Common Ground but would be nice to know just which Cemetery and details if any exist.

I am following up my YEARDLY/YARDLY/YEARDLEY etc family tree and many were in the Lanarkshire areas of Carmichael and Cambusnethan.
Sorry I cannot give you exact dates of death as of yet due to just getting a break through on the family over the weekend and not able to confirm via a certificate.

Hoping this is enough information to assist with any research. I will try and do a PM to give you my personal email address.

Many thanks and I have loved reading all the great work you have done over the years regarding everyone in this cemetery.
Kind regards Ailsa

Hi Ailsa,

Couldn't find very much I'm afraid, certainly no photographs or MIs for the old burial ground.
This family seem to have been incomers to the parish but, as there are no official records for Cambusnethan burials before 1861, we will probably never know where John Gray is buried. his wife Elizabeth died during a period where there are no records of burials in common ground and there is no mention of her in the purchased plots for that time.

All of the following are interred in the new Cambusnethan cemetery, next to the old churchyard.

MARY POLLOCK, housewife, Morningside, aged 51 years, married.
Parents - John Gray & Elizabeth Yardley.
Buried in plot B50 on 7th May 1892.

NEWBORN MALE POLLOCK, Morningside, aged 9 hours.
Parents - John Pollock & Mary Gray.
Plot B50 on 8th April 1879.

MARY GRAY POLLOCK, Morningside, aged 9 months.
Parents - John Pollock & Janet Bulloch.
Plot B50 on 25th June 1897.

- - - - -
ANN MUIR, housewife, Morningside, aged 42 years, married.
Parents - John Gray & Elizabeth Yardley.
Interred in public ground on 5th February 1870.

JOHN GRAY MUIR, Morningside, aged 2 weeks.
Parents - Hugh Muir & Ann Gray.
Public ground on 2nd January 1867

MARY WILSON, housewife, Torphichen, aged 35 years, married.
Parents - Hugh Muir & Annie Gray.
Plot E918 on 15th July 1898.

also, there are 2 entries from the day book for Stane cemetery in Shotts, they are mixed-up with the Cambusnethan records for some reason. These may be of use to you, so I'll list them just in case you can link to them.

WILLIAM MARSHALL YARDLEY, Shotts, aged 14 weeks.
Parents - Alexander Yardley & Marion S. Goldie.
Plot A264 (at Stane) on 5th January 1907.
plot owner listed as Alexander Yardley, coal miner. 4 Gilburn Place, Shotts.

AGNES H. MARSHALL, domestic servant, Shotts, aged 18 years, unmarried.
Parents - William Marshall & Annie Yardley.
Plot A264 on 10th October 1911.
Plot owned by William Marshall, miner. 32 High Street, Shotts.

That's the best I can do, sorry it isn't much.
Good luck with your research,

Lodger

Lodger, thank you very much for this. Yes they all fit including the ones in Stane, Not a place I had thought to look at yet, but will do so now.
At least I know someone has had a look for me and very grateful for that.

Hi Lodger,

Is it possible to give me the details for this MI on your list please with transcription if you have it?

CULLAN & BARMAN

I'm wondering if the "Cullan" may be one of my "Cullen's" with variant of spelling.

I did have another from you in the past with a variant in spelling which was one of mine.
