Millens in Hothfield
« on: Sunday 03 July 11 11:35 BST (UK) »
I believe my g g greatgrandmother Lydia Millen came from Hothfield in Kent. I have her marrying in London a James Barthram in 1838. According to the LDS records she had three sisters and her father was John Millen mother Ann ?. Apart from visiting Kent how can I find out more about this family?
All help appreciated.

Many thanks...................Cybrgran

This is a 2007 posting I found - hope it`s helpful in contacting fellow Millen researchers

The MILLENs of the County of Kent, England Family History Project

http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.millen/99.3.1/mb.

I hope nothing illegal about copying above - just found it by googling the surname

No problem :)

If you do get stuck I ahve close family in Kent, not far from this area and would be happy to do a bit of digging next time I go down there. Can't promise when that will be though!

There is one MILLEN Monumental Inscription listed for Hothfield

http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsHothfield/01.htm

There are some MILLEN wills for neighbouring parishes that might be worth investigating

also look at the Mid Kent Marriages Index

You may already have this information but it may help by way of confirmation.

Apart from Lydia baptised on 12 August 1798 there were seven sons, one sister and two twin sisters christened as children of John and Ann Millen in Hothfield between 1791 and 1813.  As the last entry was in 1813 father John’s occupation was noted as Farmer.  There is also a possible further brother, Samuel, baptised 29 March 1789 in Westwell.

Also in Hothfield was almost certainly the marriage of Lydia’s parents John Millen and Ann Godfrey.  It took place on 18 November 1788, John was recorded as a bachelor and Ann as a spinster of Westwell.  The witnesses were Joseph Walker and Thos Pearson.

Best regards,
Tony
