I now have information that I think solves the problem of two George Heaths being born about the same time in the same place, Guildford. Thanks to bjmayes, valda and caroleW. These two Georges are distinguished by the name of their father, either George or Charles. The clue appears to be in the one document i have, the birth certificate of the son, also called George He was born in 1838 in Guildford. His parents were listed as George Heath and Harriet Kircherner. The important information is that the father was listed as a tailor. Valda found information of George's second marriage in 1858 to presumably Charlotte? in Lambeth, Surrey (which i assume is near Guilford). George was listed as a widower and a tailor. His father was listed as Charles Heath (and not George). Valda also found that Charles heath had a daughter Mary, who later married a Charles Boucher in Westminister in 1827. She was born in 1802. bdmayes found that the will of Charles Heath, who died in 1845, had a son George and a daughter mary Boucher. In the 1841 census, Mary Boucher was living with her father Charles. He was 60, putting his birth around 1781. It would be nice to go back further. I wonder what the origin of the Boucher name is. One mystery remains. George, the son, was missing from the Heath household in the 1851 census. He would have been 13. He was present in the 1841 and 1861 censuses. Once again, thank you all for your kind contributions. Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed. Best wishes David
