Ann Dunbobbin 1834
« on: Sunday 25 September 11 17:00 BST (UK) »
Hi

Please could anyone with access to the Speke parish records have a look to see if there is an Ann Dunbobbin/Dunbevin/Dunbabin christened around 1834c - /+

In every census I have her  tracked between 1861 and 1891 she has listed Speke as her home parish, she was single in the 1861 and then living with Richard Forrest from then on claiming to be married but I can't find a marriage for them anywhere .

Any help much appreciated

Kind Regards Judi

Speke was in the parish of Childwall. At the time you want there was no C of E church in Speke. Possibilities would be Childwall itself, Wavertree, Much Woolton, Garston or Hale.

There's a baptism at St. Mary the Virgin, Hale on 8 Apr 1832:
"Anne, illegitimate daur of Elizabeth Dunbabin, Oglet, Single woman."

Elizabeth was almost certainly "Betsey daur of Thomas & Alice Dunbavin, Speke, Labourer", baptised there on 11 Apr 1813. Alice appears to have been living at Oglet until her death in 1852.

Oglet is the area south of the main runway at Liverpool airport. The lane was severed when that runway was built, and is now connected by a new link from the south end of Dungeon.

I reckon this Ann is likely to be the girl at Lower Road, Halewood in 1851 (HO107/2193 ED3a FOL61 PG37), transcribed as BLAIN. Some people had great difficulty with the suname.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

Hi All

Thank you all so much for your replys ( apologies for the late response I have been away).

Having seen Gibel's reply to this query I  looked at the other parish's for possable records and came to the same conclusion that Andrew did in the last post.

I believe that Ann could well be the Illigitimate daughter of Elizabeth christened at Hale in 1832 ....

However I'm not sure of Andrews suggestion re Elizabeth /Betty being the daughter of Thomas and Alice, having looked into that family I can only see 5 baptisms for children born to this couple, Mary, Alice, George Ralph and William ...can't see a Betsy/Elizabeth born to Thomas and Alice, all the 5 children I have listed were christened in Hale between 1815 and 1827

No baptism's found for the 2 eldest ( James and Henry)

1841
Alice aged 53  a fishmonger with
James 20
Henry 20
William 15
Alice 15
George 5

All listed as born  in county

Then in 1851
Alice 65 a widow Fishmonger
Ralph 35 son
Ralph 15 servant
Joseph Leadbetter 29 Son in Law
Alice Leadbetter 27 Daughter
Elizabeth Leadbetter    8
Isabella Leadbetter    6
Alice Leadbetter    4
Mary Leadbetter    2

Andrew could you please let me know  where you found the baptism record for "Betsey daur of Thomas & Alice Dunbavin, Speke, Labourer", baptised there on 11 Apr 1813"

It may be its not on the IGI with the other children and does not appear on LOPR

Then I can see if it fits with the above family in any way.

Many thanks to you all

Just had another thought on this

Given that there is a possability that Ann could well be the Illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth christened at Hale on 8 April 1832, I wondered if  the mother Elizabeth went on to marry soon after Ann's birth ?

I found this marriage which is a possable

John Thomas Lowe married Elizabeth Dunbavan at  15 July 1832 St Nicholas, Liverpool, LANCASHIRE found on  ( IGI )

I then looked at the 1841 census to try to see if the family could possably have a daughter Ann Dunbavan living with them or a daughter Ann of the right age perhaps in the name of Lowe

1841
John Lowe aged 25................ 1816
Elizabeth Lowe aged 25............. 1816
ANN Lowe aged 9 ..................... 1832............a possability
Ellen Lowe  aged 1 .....................1

Living in Dale street Liverpool

2 things stick out on this record

1, There is a very big gap between the children Ann and Ellen
2, I can only find Ellen's baptism  to this couple which is here

Ellen Lowe born 1840c  baptised 9 Feb 1840 At liverpool St Peters to parents John Lowe and Elizabeth Lowe
-----------

and her birth reg
1840
quarter 1
liverpool
Vol 20
pg 315
-----------------
To prove or eliminate

I think the  birth cert may be the way to go

Anyone got any thoughts ????? or am I barking up the wrong tree

can anyone see the family in 1851 ?????

Regards judi
