More info from wedding needed
« on: Sunday 20 November 11 23:23 GMT (UK) »
I have been searching for over a year now for the wedding of William Halliwell & Ann ? in about 1808-1809 in Gresford, wales to no avail. Then I noticed whilst doing a wildcard type search that there was a wedding on 6 Feb 1809 for a William Holywell and Ann Dobb at St Mary's on the hill, Chester. Looking at Google maps there is only about 8 miles distance so it might be my missing piece of information. This was found on www.familysearch.org from England, Cheshire Bishop's Transcripts, 1598-1900.

I was wondering if there was a resource that might include more information like ages, father's name etc.
I would really like to claim this person but feel that I need more information to do so..

Thanks

Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837 which is the date when Civil Registration was introduced.  All you will get will be on the lines of the following - some of which you may already know

Names, date and venue

Spinster/bachelor - or widow/widower

Full age or minor indicating 0/21 or under 21

Of this parish (OTP) - does not necessarily mean they were both born in that parish -just that they satisfied the short residential qualifying time required to enable them to marry there (approx 3wks)

The name and signature of the person marrying them plus the signatures of the 2 witnesses (occasionally more than 2 witnesses but not usual)

You may have some luck with the Cheshire Parish Register Project but there seems to be a problem with their website at the moment

I have been trying since Saturday and it keeps crashing on me using 4 different types of browsers, so I suspect the problem is at their end.

Hi

Findmypast now has a lot of Cheshire images. A search of the free index shows that it looks like they may have both the Bishops Transcripts and Parish Register for the William Holywell and Ann Dobb/Dodd? marriage.

Yes they do but unfortunately my subscription with findmypast elapsed several months ago.
Don't know if it's worth paying to see if it is the same info as found on familysearch.

Thanks anyway

You could purchase credits rather than a subscription - i'ts 10 credits for the transcription and 20 for the image - or wait until the Cheshire Parish Register project site is back up and running!  :)
