The problem being that wills of that age were normally written on quite large sheets of paper.   I don`t know what to suggest apart from trying to print them in Landscape mode and doing the top half on one sheet and the bottom on another and sticking together to form one page - if you see my meaning.

Just make sure you make a back up copy of the originals before you do anything.

At least you can read them on your computer.

Do keep us posted.

Hello,   with every light on in the room, the biggest of magnifiers I have and my glasses and jewellers magnifiying glass in hand.....Richard Hall

With my best head on... confirms he is my man.  bricklyer of Edmonton, sad thing 'bequeeths  unreadable name'... Scharchold ??? Estate' to my wife..???......no name entered, just space... to the support of the child my wife is now pregnant. can read
More reference to Sch???? Estate nd his wife remarrying......guess he knew he would not live to be old man.
'I do appoint my father Thomas Hall sole executor of this my last will'....signed and dated .... think it reads Thirteenth? day of July 1819 ,only few months before he died?

This is when I just wish I could get the copy to you, so more experienced eyes could see it.

Will try translating bit more.... will  Proved 15th April 1820

In the National Archives they use A3 printers because of the size of many things. When I downloaded wills from their site I printed them on A4 paper and then took them to a print shop and had them enlarged to A3 then I was able to read most of it.

The alternative is to enlarge them bit by bit on your PC and transcribe them that way.

Have fun at least you know Richard's father was called Thomas now!

Hi.

You can post portions of the will that you can`t read - just not the whole thing on the deciphering and Recognition board.  The experts there are second to none.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the extra large copy of the will, but I am delighted to hear that it confirms that Richards father is Thomas.  I look forward to hearing what both of the wills reveal.  :)

Thomas Hall d 1844

Give & bequ.... etc to Dtr in law Elizabeth Hall  widow of my late son Thomas Hall......... Lots of place names, such a bad copy,. can make out one...    Eaton Place...? think Fore Street Edmonton.

Thanks, that has really cleared  that query very nicely.....There seems to be many other names and addresses, Edmonton. Cant read

As I was so very lucky, thought Id have  look for the other Thoms d 1899, but when I put in the date in Archieves only starts at 1859.....then the date decreases with next pages...

Would you kindly see what happens when you try the info (same criteria) and date ?

Ever so happy

Val
