Hi Maggie

Did you know that there is a website for the New Zealand BMD??

They are not complete as they must comply with privacy regulations.....  you can find them at

http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/search/

Good luck

What time period are you looking at?
Would they still be alive, a little more and we can point you in right direction.
If older than 100yers, then some firstnames etc
Bye for now

Hi Maggie

Welcome to the New Zealand board.   :)

Obviously, at RootsChat we can't help you with a search for "living" relatives, but you could try viewing the passenger indexes at  >>

http://findmypast.com

to determine when your family arrived in NZ.

Or, if they arrived after 1960, then a search of the "Whitepages" telephone directory may help in your quest ?

Hi folks

Thanks to Lu, Althea and Karenlee.

Unfortunately I actually do not know who I am looking for.  My Dad died before I was actively researching my family history.  I just always remember him saying that I had relatives in New Zealand.  It may have been an Uncle of my Dad's James Meeke who was born in 1893 as the other brothers and sisters I can account for but know nothing of him.  The name Meek/Meeke are i believe one in the same and have noted on some census records to be or the other but still related if you know what I mean.

I am hoping (needle in a haystack) that someone there will mayb know a wee bit more about their family history and it will match the people in mine.

Jo - I have found relatives in the States whose name is spelt Meek but are related, so it maybe that 'e' was just left off over there as well.  Do your relatives come from Northern Ireland.  I live very near the old homestead in an area known as Meekstown.  Meeke/Meek are from the Ahoghill/Gracehill/Portglenone area.  I have photos of old graves (meek) in Ahoghill old cemetry.

Thanks again for the information and I will check the different suggestions.

Maggie,
My Mother was a Meek.  I live in the US and my family came here from Ireland.  I will be in Carrickfergus for the first time this summer and I have heard that Meekstown has a grave yard with some of the Meek family there.  I hope to visit the grave yard but I don't know if I will be able too.  I only have family information about the Meeks in the US so I can't help with the New Zealand connection.
Do you have pictures or names of the Meeks in Meekstown cemetery?  I would love any information you have about the Meeks who came to the US.
Jill

Hi Maggie, I am in New Zealand and not sure if I can help, but My Grandfather James Meek was born in October 1893/94 moved to England and got married there. He was I believe the youngest of 5, his brothers being William, Samuel and I think Robert, with a sister Martha.  His mother was I believe Margaret, and his father I think was William.  My mother was the first of her siblings born in NZ in 1924. Her older sister born in Bolton England in 1919.  If this is of assistance please reply.  I am just getting into genealogy.
