jeremiah atkinson

Jeremiah Atkinson, does anyone know what has happened to him? He was born in 1852, married Mary Flowers in sept 1872, in Teesdale. We think he died young. Could of been at around the age of 39? Can't find any details, except that Mary was a widow in 1891. Thanks

What was his occupation on their marriage cert?  If he was a mariner - he may have died at sea

Have you found Mary in 1881?  What was her marital status at that time?

Where and when was Jeremiah born?

Where and when was he born?

What was his fathers name on the marriage cert?

The 1871 has an entry b 1853 Newcastle - father Robert

Maybe a complete coincidence - but in the USA census of 1880 there is a Jeremiah Atkinson aged 27, married, a miner from England living in Black Hawk Colorado.

It might be an idea if this post was merged with the other thread - I'll ask the moderator

Hi Carole, Did not realise their were so many Atkinson's up there, we are only a very small branch of the family here.
Jeremiah was born in 1852 at Newcastle upon tyne (10b 74)
His father was Robert and Mary was still married in 1881. Thanks

rayaco - I think Jeremiah emigrated to the USA.

As far as I can see there was only one Jeremiah Atkinson born in England between 1850 and 1860 - the Jeremiah you are looking for, born in  the October/November/December quarter of 1852.

In the 1900 USA census for Oregon there is a Jeremiah Atkinson, who states he was born in England in October 1852. He states that he emigrated in 1880. He has a 'wife' Ann, also born in England, a son Earl aged 9 born in the USA and two stepsons, both born in the USA. He states that he and Ann have been married for 19 years (i.e. since 1881)

In the 1910 USA census they are still in Oregon: he states that they have been married for 24 years (i.e. since 1886) and that he emigrated to the USA in 1880.

The date of emigration would tie with the fact that Mary Atkinson is alone but says she is married in the 1881 English census.

If I have the right person and he did indeed actually marry Ann then you have a bigamist on your hands.
