Help finding William Ansell
« on: Monday 27 February 12 20:27 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find some information about a William Ansell.
I have just found a marriage between him and my great great grandmother Sarah Cunningham (born 1847 Ireland) They married on the 14 feb 1868 in Malew Isle of Man.
She remarried on the 27 March 1871 in Kent to a Spencer pryer.
Did William come from the Isle of Man and did he die there.
Any help would be appreciated.
I think i will need to order the marriage certificate to find out his age.
Where do i apply to in the Isle of Man

KG looking in wrong place - pre 1878 civil reg thus in Parish regs + on IGI - have extracted record Malew 1868-02-14 but not looked at it
Have no records of name Ansell on my database - the billeted soldiers at Castletown would marry at Malew (and what girl could resist a soldier!) - however the cheapest scheme is to borrow Mormon film of Malew marriages for that period - nornmally should give his regt if a soldier + other details - same info as on cert from Gen reg

the IoMSPCo does cheap (!!) budget breaks to Douglas - the Manx Museum is open 10am to 5pm  6 days a week - buying the cert from General registry will give you exactly the same info but you do get a pretty form (and the satisifaction of having contributed to Government coffers).
There are no Ansell bapts or appearances in earlier censuses that I can see on Island (nor burials - see www.iomfhs.im ) hence my suggestion that probably a soldier - presume dead by 1871 if you have the correct identification
