Boseley/Bosley, Finstock/Charlbury
« on: Sunday 01 April 12 04:39 BST (UK) »
Trying to unravel this family in the early 1800s.  This what we have:

FamilySearch with father Robert BOSELEY (varied spellings), mother Ann
Jason BOSELY, baptised 5 AUG 1814 Charlbury, Oxford, England
Elizabeth BOAZLEY, baptised 28 JUL 1816 Charlbury, Oxford, England, died 18 October 1828
Hannah BOZELEY, baptised 1 JUN 1821 Charlbury, Oxford, England

and this one with father Robert, mother Mary
Emanuel BOZELY, Baptised 6 JUN 1819  Charlbury, Oxford, England
We would like to know if he is actually a sibling of Jason.  We have him living in Fulham with wife Lydia and chn in 1851.  Can't see a marriage for this couple nor find Emannuel in 1841.This family emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1858.

Jason was a bit naughty in 1834 -
Jason BOSELEY and Edward THORNETT charged at Oxfordshire Lent Assizes with stealing a pair of breeches from Richard Boseley of Ramsden. And got 3 months for his trouble.

Marriage of Jason: (indexed as Borsley) - both parties sign; witnesses make a cross.
7 Sep 1836 at Paddington St James
Jason BOESLY, bachelor, of this parish
Lizzy TURNER, spinster, of this parish
Witnesses: Will'm BOSELEY, Hannah Gardiner

We have information about Jason and Elizabeth after 1851 when they were lin Kensington in 1851 - can't find them in 1841.

Would really appreciate help finding Robert BOSELEY, birth, death asnd marriage/s to Ann or Mary.  Searches are not helped by the variety of spelling - two different spellings on the marriage3 certificate alone!

Thanks for reading this far!

Hi Judith

There is one that might fit on the OFHS Marr Index 1538 - 1837

Robert BOSLEY of Finstock at Charlbury to Ann HUTT of Finstock 13 Oct 1813

Finstock is just along the road from Charlbury.

Just had a look at the PR's for St Marys Church, Charlbury which says the marriage took place on 4 Oct 1813  ???

Marriage by Banns, Wits; William Lainchbury & Ann Hutt.

Thanks NDRFT. Looks right to me.  Forgot to say that Jason and Emanuel both give Finstock as p.o.b. on census entries, although their baptisms were in Charlbury.  (I note that the present Finstrock church was only built in 1841 so perhaps there was no church at Finstock itself.)  And the owner of the breeches nicked by Jason was also a BOSELEY of Ramsden - all in the same area.

Do you think that Emanuel is another son with wrongly transcribed mother?  Unless Robert was openly fathering children with another.  Of course, there may have been two Roberts.  However Emanuel knew enough about Jason's son (Charles) to give correct parent details when Emanuel was informant for the son's death certificate.

Hi Judith

Just been through the PR's again for Charlbury and within these are Finstock whose PR's start in 1842 and I have those as well. I cannot see a marriage for Robert and Mary so I reckon the entry you have may not be correct and it was Robert and Ann all along until Ann died see below when Robert seems to have married a Sarah - can't see the marriage so she was from else where - and they had a child Elizabeth B 1829 Bapt St Marys Charlbury

You are a treasure NDRFT - is there any sign of Emanuel's baptism. Surname spelling BOZELEY (according to FamilySearch -it's an extracted entry so should be reliable.

YAY - many thanks - Emannuel's mother wrongly transcribed somewhere between parish records and FamilySearch.  Oh those spellings!  Judith
