Hi there,

Upon receipt of the copy of Gertrude's birth cert it appears that she was the daughter of her 'sister' Mary Ann Markham.

It is with sadness that the name, surname and occupation of the father are met with two thick black lines.

So well done to Manchester Rambler/Milliepede.

I'm not sure what to do now. She must have given her grandfather's name as her father to avoid 'loss of face' when giving the info on her marriage cert. Unless.....no, we will not go there!!!

Kind regards,

Mark.

Ah there we go then she was the daughter of Mary Ann and William was her grandfather.  Quite natural to put his name down as her father as a preference to leaving it blank when she married  :)
