Mary Ann Devote lookup please

Hi all, I require birth/death details please. I know she was married to a Joseph Masserella (1874) and i think she was born in 1857 in weymouth. i have her in 1911 as a widow. i also know her 11 children (think thats all).

If she was alive in 1911 - have you checked freebmd for her death from 1911 onwards - freebmd coverage is to the late 1940's   www.freebmd.org.uk

The marriage in 1874 shows her surname as Devouto - see freebmd

yes , she was 54 in 1911 widowed. At that time she was the head of the family and the census mentions Walter Devote, brother. Thus the spelling. That different spelling would explain why i couldnt find her. will look at bmd. cheers



see what you mean, i suppose the guy doing the 1911 census couldn't spell. I would imagine the marriage was correct. cant seem to find her death though under her married or maiden name. will keep looking

There's one in 1940 but birthyear is 1851.  There is no 1901/1911 entry with that name and birthyear in Dorset

and the census mentions Walter Devote, brother

The 1911 index shows his birthyear as 1884 - that 27yrs after Mary was born.  Is he married with any children on the 1911 entry

1891 census for Melcombe Regis - if this is Walter then birthyear is 4 years out compared to 1911 entry.  All b Weymouth except Patience

You will find Walter on the 1881 census indexed as Devote and birthyear 1880

Somebody else appears to be researching this same family and has notified a correction on the 1861 census.  Indexed as Devante and notification says that surname is Davouta as per 2 of the childrens birth certs

Thanks for the quick response, sorry I got so excited I missed that entry - my grandfather Walter was 4 in the 1901 Census but I have a record of May listed as dead in 1905!
