Hello

I am having great difficulty locating George in the 1841 and 1851 census. He was baptised on the 28 Nov 1828 at Brompton to parents Benjamin and Tamer (nee Peverley) Stubbs.

Benjamin I believe married 3 times, Tamer being his second wife in 1825 Bolton on Swale. He is living in York in the 1841 census St Saviour York with Hannah nee Daniel. In 1851 at York St Crux. George is not there.

The first time George appears is in 1861 Durham St Giles after marrying Mary Ann Brown in 1854.  Birth place given as Branton or Northallerton in various census. His marriage certificate states his father is Benjamin, a pitman and yet on census 1841, 1851 and 1871 he is a labourer or an agr lab.

George dies in 1891, possibly Spennymoor.

I am wondering am I folowing the correct Benjamin Stubbs as there is a record in the BT's at Rainton Gate of a Martha baptised 14th Jan 1831 to a Benjamin and Tamar, Benjamin is a labourer. I thought he married Hannah Daniels 1829 St Sampson York.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Just to add I have had a look at other public trees with this family and no one seems to have George in the 1841 or 1851 census.

This entry caught my eye, although I know the birthplace is wrong.

HO 107 / 2393 / 546 / 18

West Rainton

Joseph Walker, head, mar, 64, coal miner, Durham Penshaw.
Tamer do, wife, do ,  64, do West Rainton
George Stubs, son in law, unm, 24, coal miner, do, do, do

A search on Durham Records Online reveals that there is a Joseph Walker/Tamar Stubbs marriage in 1833.
It was in Dalton le Dale

George's wife Mary was from Rainton and some of their children were born there.

Thanks JenB :)

Wow would never have picked that up. My image is transcribed very differently although have to admit it is very poor. Just having a look to see if I can see the family in 1841. It is a good possibility as I never did find a death for Tamer Stubbs.

Looks like Joseph Walker died in 1852 - aged 65, residence West Rainton according to Durham Records Online
I can't find a death for Tamar.

Mmm I see that.(birthpace Durham)

According to my records, although I could be wrong, Tamer was baptised East Cowton 1800. However as we know it is not always gospel what was said in the census ::)

Still looks a good possibility though. Thanks

Will have a look for a death for Tamer

All the census information given by the head of household though, so not necessarily correct if George was his stepson  ???  ???

Thanks for all the information  :) I think this must be George and his Mam especially when she had Martha at Rainton in 1831
