Parents Of William Burgess.

Hi All.
William Burgess my GGG/Grandfather was born between 1797 and 1799 in Dumfries Dumfrieshire, I am trying to find out the name of his parents. Any help will be really appreciated.

Note that Dumfries records didn't list mother's name at that time.

Have you got any more info about him that might help -  marriage, death, locations, etc.

Thank you for your reply.
I think that this is the correct baptism as I believe that William was born in July 1798. William married Agnes Hogg in 1817 in a irregular Scottish marriage and I believe he died in May 1841 so does not appear on any census. Agnes his wife died in the 1860s in Dumfries Poorhouse. William and Agnes had the following children in Dumfries:

1818 Mary
1820 Fanny Miller
1823 Isabel
1824 Robert
1826 David
1829 Agnes
1831 William
1833 James

Given that Robert seems to have been the first son, it's quite possible that the baptism record with father Robert is a strong possible

I have just found a marriage on IGI for a Robert Burgess To a Mary Frazer at Dumfries on 19th January 1794. This could well be Williams parents marriage the date seems to be about right.

Saw that one earlier but the SP image is really bad so can't read what it says very well - I think it says that Mary was of Tinwald.

I'll try and enhance it, otherwise will contact them for a better one.

It reads:

Robert Burgess Stocking Weaver of this place (or parish) and Mary Frazer of the Parish of Tinwald.

Not a lot but maybe the occupation and Mary's parish might help.

It as taken my Burgess line further back, but I cannot seem to find anything on the birth of Agnes Hogg, I think I have hit a brickwall with her.
