John burns Help Please
« on: Friday 24 August 12 23:55 BST (UK) »
Hello to all you good people in America

im trying to find a man named John burn/s born in Ireland about 1855 who was on the 1881 England Census with his wife and family,he was living in Longton Stoke on Trent staffordshire. He married 1878 Stoke on trent staffordshire.
i Cannot find him after this point in time on the 1891 census ,1901 Census His wife was named Ann ryan maiden name but she continued to live in the uk with all her children and i have them on every census but john is never listed after 1881 but she is always stated as married on all not a widow.
the only reason i am looking for help in America is on one of his sons military papers in 1914 ,he states next of kin john burns America ??
His Occupation in 1881 was a Labourer in iron works.

on his marriage certificate it states he was an iron furnace man.
I know this is a real long shot .

im trying to put a link to a thread i did on the Irish forum.???

Hi Julian,

Its a little like looking for a needle in a haystack, no parents names, very few clues.
Started looking to see if any of the sons made the journey to the USA but that also turned up nothing so far. However, I did notice on the 1891 UK Census - 2 nephews staying with the family.  Daniel Mahon appears on the 1910 US Census with his wife and children in Ohio.  Haven't looked for the immigration record for the family yet but it might be interesting to see if they are going to meet up with anyone in particular. Will follow them just to see if anything crops up on John Burns.

Cincinnati Ward 19, Hamilton, Ohio 1910 -

Daniel Mahon 38 Born England. Parents Ireland. Immigrated 1905. Marriage 1 for 20 years. Labourer. Railroad.
Elizabeth Mahon 34 Born England. Immigrated 1905. Had 12 children and 7 survive.
Thomas Mahon 18 Born Eng. Labourer Railway.
Arthur Mahon 16 Born Eng. Labourer. Helper Foundry.
Daniel Mahon 12 Born Eng   John Mahon 11 Born Eng
Bartley Mahon 6 Born Eng   Elizabeth Mahon 3 Born Ohio
William Mahon 10 months. Born Ohio
