David,
I have to say that as Mark Twain said 'It is wiser to find out than suppose' and I feel I am being 'led' in the right direction by yourself.
With reference to your information re the death of a William Housden, I have found a marriage of William Housden to Ann Peddar, 17 Feb 1787 at Flitwick, Bedford.
Could his widow be the Ann Housden that married James Jeeves?
I can see an Ann Pedder bap 16 March 1768, Ampthill, to a Rob/Sarah Pedder, but that is a long way off 1760. No other Ann Pedder's born Beds, c1760 found.
Mark.
