Ann Housden, Sandy, Beds.
« on: Friday 02 November 12 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for any info re a Ann Housden who married James Jeeves/Jieves 27 Feb 1794 Sandy Beds.

The freeREG listing has no parish info re either but I can see that there are a few Housden's in the area around this time.

They had a son, John who married a Catherine Merryweather in Sandy in 1829.

The only Ann Housden that I have found around this time is bap 11 March 1781 in Potton. Dates are not good BUT, although she was baptised 1781, she may have been born a few years earlier....... :-\!

There is a John/Mary Housdain/Housden and a John/Alice Housden 'breeding' in the Sandy area around this time but I have been unable to locate the birth of an 'Ann'.

Kind regards,

Mark.

Thanks Ray,

As they married in Sandy I was hoping for a definite 'match' there but it may be the reason that I can find nothing is that she was born in another county.

I will investigate your info.......

Regards,

Mark.

I think that I have found Ann Jeeves' (Housden) death.

Ann Jeeves burial 5 Nov 1822, Sandy, Beds.

I was hoping that somebody may be able to give an 'age' at time of death to see if it relates to her possible birth in 1773?

Regards,

Mark.

age 62. Was she a spinster on marriage or possibly a widow? A William Housden was buried at Sandy on 4 Jun 1789

Three James Jeeves burials in Sandy pre 1858
age 80 in 1 Jul 1827
age 67 on  8 Feb 1838
age 73 on 4 Jun 1843

Thanks David.

I can find no info on the FreeREG entry. Only date, place and names.

But it could be that she is the 'Ann Jeeves' that I am looking for, born c1760, giving her an age of 34 at time of marriage. Perhaps not.....!!

Regards,

Mark.

With reference to James Jeeves, I believe that he was baptised 13 April 1771, Sandy, Beds to William Jeeves/Elizabeth Lincoln.

Working on the 'baptisimal' dates as opposed to birth dates it would seem likely that the middle one could be my 'man'.

David,

I have to say that as Mark Twain said 'It is wiser to find out than suppose' and I feel I am being 'led' in the right direction by yourself.

With reference to your information re the death of a William Housden, I have found a marriage of  William Housden to Ann Peddar, 17 Feb 1787 at Flitwick, Bedford.

Could his widow be the Ann Housden that married James Jeeves?

I can see an Ann Pedder bap 16 March 1768, Ampthill, to a Rob/Sarah Pedder, but that is a long way off 1760. No other Ann Pedder's born Beds, c1760 found.

A 34 year old could easily have been a widow, which is why I was thinking out loud about the possibility.

FreeReg unfortunately doesn't seem to give marital status on marriages, and whilst I have many Beds PR transcripts, Sandy isn't one of them, so I'm afraid it's the microfilm to see if Ann really was a widow. I think this should be your first port of call, as everything earlier is just speculation (unless someone else has the Sandy transcript - but this won't have the witnesses which might also provide a clue)

I have doubts about Flitwick, which is a bit of a hike from Sandy. There were also quite a few Howsons in Flitwick, including an 83 year old William who was buried there on 12 Dec 1848.
