1841 look up help for St. Pancras, Middx
« on: Sunday 02 December 12 17:02 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find JOHN GIBSON, Coach Lace Weaver, father of Frederick Gibson b abt 1830, St. Pancras?  I can't find John or any of Frederick's siblings anywhere and I have no names or dates - a family story is there's a possibility the family originated from Scotland.  Certainly Frederick was living in London around St. Pancras but I have no idea about his father/family.

Marriage banns for Frederick Gibson, to Mary Hussey dated 6 Aug 1860, St. Pancras Church, Parish of St. Pancras.  Frederick is full age, coach lace weaver, Mary is a Minor, no profession.  Frederick living at Vittoria Place, Mary at Perry Street.  Frederick Father, John Gibson, coach Lace Weaver, Mary's father, John Hussey is an Iron Moulder.

Witnesses are James and Ann Flood.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

I see MAry Gibson, married, aged 20, lodging with the Floods in 1861, just after her marriage to Fredk. No sign of Fredk there though.

Hi, I've just checked back and I have no firm dob and no pob.  The only records I have of his are his 2 marriages, there was a second in 1865, at st. Philip the Evangelist, Islington, living at 8 Coleman Street.  Full age.

2nd marriage states father John Gibson Coach lace Weaver but now Frederick is a warehousman.

Ooo, that's good, I'll look up the 1861.  I can't even find Frederick Gibson birth with a father named John - not sure where I'm going wrong.

thanks so much for helping!

How do I search the census using the RG no.?  Do I do this on Ancestry?

Second marriage in 1865 is to a Mary Jane .

So you need to find Fredk and Mary Jane on 1871 or later census to get a year and place of birth for Frederick. Only then can you think about looking further back.

Did they have any children? If so do give their names and years and places of birth to help us find the family, as I cant spot them.

One step at a time is the secret!

Yes you can do

Go on to 1861 census
Then on to England Census
Then put in the ref number at the bottom.

This is great.  I've looked up the 1861 census thank you!

Frederick had died by 1871, as in the 1871 census, his widow Mary Jane Gibson (nee Holton 2nd marriage) was a cook in a house in Binfield.  She and Frederick had a son.  Frederick Warwick Gibson b 1 Sept 1866, Pancras Grays Inn Lane, 2 Paradise Street.  Frederick a plumber.

I've found a Pancras death for a Frederick Gibson aged 36, apr-Jun 1866, 1b 73 - but not sent for cert yet.

In 1871 son Frederick Warwick aged 4 is boarding in house in same road his mother works in.

Mary Jane married a Thomas Evans in 1878.
