Humberstone Parish Lookup - Borm or Baum
« on: Monday 17 December 12 22:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I have a bit of a mystery. My ancestor, John Swanwick, Jr. from Blaby, married Frances Borm from Humberstone. Their marriage took place in 1808 in Blaby and I can trace the Swanwick family with no problem. The mystery is Frances Borm and although the banns say "Borm" I am starting to wonder if the name is incorrect. So far, I am not finding any Borm family located in Humberstone, but I do see a Baum family in the 1842 census.

Frances was born around 1782 in Humberstone. Can someone somehow do a parish lookup to see if there is a Frances Borm or Baum, or...?

Thank you so much,
Gwyneth

Thank you for the quick reply, Mike! So, the banns and the Blaby Marriage register both say that Frances' surname is Borm. Also, perhaps she was born in Humberstone (as the censuses say) but was living 5 miles away in Aylestone at the time of the marriage.

I would still like to know if there is any mention of a Borm family in Humberstone or Aylestone, as the name seems unusual and also very difficult to track down. It sounds like a Flemish name.

Thank you again,
Gwyneth

I see...I would be grateful if I could somehow get a list of Borms. Perhaps Frances was her middle name? I have found a few ancestors (including my father!) who went by their middle name rather than their first name. At least I might be able to do some detective work if I had a list of Borms from around the 1780's.  She was born around 1782.

Thank you for the time you have taken already.

Gwyneth

Greeting’s again. Gwyneth .....

Oh dear please do not be disheartened too much
May be the are more within the original registers….
But early events can be difficult to read ……

Next time I’m in the Records Office I’ll make a point to have a look on your behalf. …..
