Hi
Are you sure of the 1851 Edward Roberts entry? Looks like Merionydd (Merioneth), Wales.
In 1861 there is an Edward Roberts, 37, a shoemaker, lodger, unmarried, born Merioneth, Dolgellau, a lodger in Penmachno.

Hi Rachel

From your other thread, I see that WR has found a tree which gives some details of Edward's marriage to Mary:

*Do you have the certificate which would confirm his father's occupation. Also, the witnesses's names.

*Added - from marriage cert - father was a shoemaker and witnesses - Thomas Boyle and Eliza Abraham  :-\

A couple of thoughts:
There is no certainty that the elder Edward Roberts identified is the father of the younger one, otherwise in 1851 father and son would be living separately alone and the father is not a witness at his son's wedding despite being locally placed.

If the younger Edward does not die(record?),but his wife, there is an Edward Jones, shoemaker, born 1824,Bangor,married to an Elizabeth at:

RG09  2710  112   24

This Edward appears may become a porter in 1871,if this is the same couple.Unfortunately he is only given as born Wales

RG10  3761  102  8

Regards
Roger

See this posting : http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,631460.msg4792906.html#msg4792906 and around it.

I've just looked up the details of Mary's second marriage - St James, Toxteth, 3 Nov 1862. Mary's father is the same as on the first marriage - Alexander Prescot

i looked for a price roberts to see if i could find him with his father in 1841 and did come across this one but im not terribley sure it the right one although there is an edward aged 12 living there as well as a robert but the ages are muddled if this is the right family and the elders lving there are different names Class: HO107; Piece: 1427; Book: 3;

Hi WRJones,
The point of my reply, besides an attempt at deciphering place of birth, is to ask the originator of the post if she is sure that the Edward Roberts in the 1851 Census is the one she has an interest in.
On the birthplace:  the correction is a copy of what was originally below it. The correction has the long downward stroke of the 'p' in 'Liverpool' above it, going thro' it. See examples of the enumerator's 'p'. This is why the transcriber has a 'g' in the place name.
