I'd like to try and gather more info on the family of Robert Cooper (born Hampshire, England, circa 1775, according to his burial record) and his wife Bridget (nee Burke). Robert came to the Cape as part of the British army (arrival date unknown), and, I'm told, was an NCO in the Cape Regiment until his retirement (again, date unknown). After leaving the Army, he set up a trading store near Wynberg Camp, which I'd be keen to find out more about. He died in Wynberg in 1841, and his wife appears to have taken over the business, but it sounds as if it went insolvent around 1844. I have no idea what happened to Bridget afterwards or when she died.
His daughter Sarah (born Dublin, Ireland?) married a William Cutting in 1919, and the couple were disinherited by Robert after William went bankrupt, though the grandchildren were not. Robert had other children as well, but I've had extreme difficulty in confiming who they were, though I've come across a notice in a newspaper notifying the public that Robert would not be held responsible for any debts his "Minor son, William" might have accrued. To muddy the waters there are a few unconnected Coopers in the Cape around the same time period.
I'd be very grateful for anything at all about this family and their doings.
